GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
January 2005

It’s a new year, and we sincerely hope 2004 ended up with a good Holiday Season for each of you.

As you know, new provisions from the Medicare Prescription Drug Bill (MMA2003) are scheduled to go into effect this year. I have described a few of the most problematic under the Medicare Update Section of this link.

I wish I could say 2005 is going to be a quiet year for healthcare, but that is simply not the case. Terrorism, Afghanistan, and Iraq are causing our country to spend hundreds of billions of dollars that were not part of any long-range budget forecast a few short years ago.

Whether we agree, or disagree, with our Administration in Washington, the fact remains that Congress needs to pass a huge Budget Deficit Reduction Act in the coming months. Healthcare in general, and homecare in particular, are going to be attractive targets for congress to seek more spending cuts.

Please come back to this site frequently to watch for updates on what is happening. You can also visit our Wednesday in Washington link for regular updates on what is happening in Congress and from other government entities like the Office of the Inspector General.

If you have any questions, just e-mail me at this site and I will get an answer back to you!
